The need to keep improving

Have you ever come back off holiday and found it a challenge to get the brain back in gear? Or maybe you used to do a sport or a hobby well and after a few years of not practising it, you find those skills you once had, have disappeared.

You might be wondering what this has to do with protection dogs in the UK. It’s actually highly relevant.

When we provide our fully trained protection dogs, we make sure they are up to the highest possible standard and ready to protect you from the minute you take ownership. But, like the human brain after a holiday or your once admired sporting skills, protection dogs can’t maintain their peak performance if they aren’t nurtured, and their training isn’t renewed.

After all, if the superior race - the human being - needs to keep brushing up on their abilities to avoid losing them, then it’s natural that an intelligent protection dog will need to do the same.

Sharpen the saw

In his book, “7 habits of highly effective people”, Steven Covey talks about the need to sharpen the saw. He argues that, like a saw that goes blunt over time, the brain and body need to keep being ‘sharpened’ to work effectively.

You might be at your peak performance like a new saw but, over time, performance can drop to a level that’s akin to cutting wood with a blunt saw.

By constantly renewing skills with regular training, protection dogs are able to continue providing protection at the highest level, and that’s where we can help.

At K9 Protector, we offer a Protection Dog Maintenance service so that you can keep the level of protection from your protection dog at the highest level.

The maintenance program can be provided over different lengths of time such as 1 or 3 years and involves renewal training for your protection dog on the various ways they can protect you and your family.

Do I need the highest level of protection?

Clients buy professionally trained protection dogs from us because they understand the importance of having the highest level of protection and, while it’s possible to provide your own form of training, our highly skilled trainers have experience in supporting and assessing protection dogs to make sure that they are maintaining the highest level of personal security for you and your family.

Learning is not compulsory… neither is survival

~ W. Edwards Deming

We love the above quote as it highlights the importance of learning and development. Dogs. like humans, need to keep learning to maintain the status quo.
